Article #1,
Total Cost of Printing - 11/26/2009
In USA Today, November 20, 2009, an article outlined the true
cost of printing including the
original printer cost and the cost of replacement cartridges.
The article compared a Kodak ESP
5250 and an Hewlett-Packard.C4780 both all-in one printers. The
HP printer list price was
$99.99 for the printer, color cartridges at $40.99, black at
$34.99. The Kodak printer list
was $159.99, $14.99 for color cartridges, $9.99 for black.
This is a variation of Gillette
razors which for years gave away the razor and made it up on
blades.
This is not an endorsement for Kodak but a reminder that, before
purchasing a printer, you
should compare the total cost of printing rather than just the
price of the printer. Incidentally the
cost per page was 5.8 cents for the HP and 2.3 cents for the
Kodak. Total printer market share
for the leading brands for 2009 was as follows.
